Can UPC Barcodes be Inverted?

I was wondering if the black and white parts of a UPCA barcode can be reversed. I couldn’t find any references online saying one way or the other, but I saw a ShopRite loyalty card today with just that situation, and my barcode scanner correctly read it, so empirically I would say yes, UPC barcodes can have their colors inverted

This may be easier to use than py2exe, and it claims it makes just a single file. It also claims to run on both Linux and windows. Yay!
